Some like it really hot – Bab toasts National Chilli Day with a scorching taste-off

14 March 2019

ANOTHER ‘National Day’ tom celebrate and this one might have you weeping with pain. To celebrate National Chilli Day on Wednesday, March 20 BAB in the Northern Quarter is hosting its debut chilli-eating event, inspired by the YouTube hit show ‘Hot Ones’.

In case you missed that tonsil-cauterising taste-off, it’s a US programme where “Shaun Evans asks well-known celebrities such as Gordon Ramsay and Tommy Chong hot questions with even hotter wings”.

Those brave enough to sign up for the BAB event, will be asked to taste a number of plain skewers paired with extra hot sauces, specifically made for only the biggest lovers of spice. The ‘gourmet kebab’ restaurant will also be providing glasses of calming milk before participants walk away with a fact-sheet and badge of honour.

BAB’s Hot Ones event will showcase a line-up of 10 hot sauces that have appeared throughout the show’s eight seasons, including Da Bomb and The Last Dab. Their host, Frank Jay, from Chilli-Shop Leeds, will be showcasing chillies from all over the world.

Ticketsare £20 with limited availability. Each one includes 10 skewers – veggie and meat available, 10 hot sauces and a glass of milk. Spectator tickets are £5 per head and must be booked in advance by calling the restaurant on 0161 806 0813 or [email protected].
