Spinningfields hosts ‘alternative’ Christmas Market and Merry Pringles Tree

18 November 2015 by Neil Sowerby

MAN (and woman) cannot live by Gluhwein and Bratwurst alone – so it’s good to know there is an alternative to the big Manchester Christmas Markets centred around Albert Square under the gaze of that odd South Park-like Santa.

Venture across Deansgate between Thursday and Sunday, 11am-7pm, each week until December 20 and you’ll discover the delights of Spinningfields Christmas Market, run by those hyperactive folk at The Makers Market

Two locations on the estate, Spinningfields Square and The Avenue are showcasing 300 artisan businesses –  chefs, bakers, artist, designers, inventors and creators – with the emphasis on festive food and drink. Alongside there’ll be cookery demos, choirs  and other  music.

Snackaholics may be diverted to the Merry Pringles Tree installation, in situ at Spinningfields, until January 3. The green and red-coloured tree comprises 1,600 Sour Cream & Onion and Original Salted Pringles cans – the equivalent of 144,000 crisps.

With it is the Pringles Advent Calendar. Each day between December 1-24 a new door of the calendar will be unlocked to reveal prizes including Pringles products and vouchers, or gifts donated by Spinningfields restaurants and retailers.

To be in with a chance to win, members of the public are being asked to capture a selfie by the tree and post it to social media using the hashtag #MerryPringlesTree. Daily winners will be picked at random.
