“Ta-ra for now” Tampopo Corn Exchange… Tampopo’s Pop Up is set to arrive at Exchange Square

25 July 2014

As the Corn Exchange gears up to transform itself into a treasure trove emporium of food and drink, flagship eaterie Tampopo has moved on out to make way for the £30m redevelopments ahead.

Tampopo is the city’s original, authentic, specialist Pan Asian restaurant – proudly bringing the best in Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Japanese, Malaysian, Filipino and Korean dishes to the people of Manchester for more than 17 years.

Plans are now underway to transform the iconic Corn Exchange building, where Tampopo has resided since 2008, into a premier dining destination that will be home to 13 independent restaurants and a boutique hotel.

An evolution may be happening to the Corn Exchange, but Tampopo isn’t going into hibernation anytime soon – instead the team will be bringing a beautifully bespoke pop-up Tampopo to Exchange Square from early August

“Tam-Pop Up” has been facilitated and supplied by the current building owners and landlord Aviva, and will bring everything that the city has come to know and love from Tampopo, right into the heart of the city centre action.

The Pop Up will feature a 35 cover communally seated restaurant with covered and al fresco areas, and the kitchen will serve a short and sweet selection of their most popular Pan Asian dishes, with a full service bar and ’street food on the go’ take away facility.

It’s Tampopo brought to the streets with a festival flavour that aims to perfectly capture Manchester’s legendary party atmosphere, as well as the street food spirit of East Asia – this is Manchester’s tasty new summer hang-out.

Tampopo Co-Founder David Fox commented:
“We’re really pleased with this arrangement made possible with the collaboration of the Corn Exchange Landlord and Manchester City Council. Street food is at the centre of all things Tampopo anyway, so this latest incarnation for us feels really natural. Its allowing us add something new to the city for a few months, and keep trading while the works continue.”

Tampopo Co-Founder Nick Jeffrey added:
“While we’re really looking forward to being part of the full re-launch of the Corn Exchange scheme next year, in the meantime our Pop Up gives us the opportunity to keep sharing the Pan Asian love - this time literally on the street. It’s actually the spiritual home of what we offer, so it’s a sweet twist of fate that we’re able to trade in this way - even if only for a few months.”

Aviva Investor’s Property Trust, owners of Corn Exchange Manchester and Queensberry Real Estate, the development managers are currently underway with bold plans to revitalise and re-position this remarkable historic Grade II listed building.

Simon Green, Asset Manager at Aviva Investors comments:
“
We are investing in Corn Exchange for its long-term sustainable use, restoring the buildings fantastic listed features including glazed domes to create a legacy for future generations to enjoy and act as a catalyst for an even more exciting regeneration of this part of the city centre.

“We are particularly excited that a number of our current restaurant partners have seen the potential and necessity for the significant re-development and are joining us on this journey.”

More details will be announced soon.
