Taste the Great British Menu dishes that won The French chef Adam Reid’s place in the Finals

22 September 2016

YOU celebrated Adam Reid’s Great British Menu triumph, now taste the winning dishes. Simon Rogan at The French, where Adam is head chef, have put on the menu the dishes that won the North West heat of the BBC2 cook-off series and took him to the National Finals.

Those Finals are in the week beginning October 24 when eight regional winners go head to head to get the chance to cook for the at a ‘Great Britons’ banquet at the Palace of Westminster.

You can still catch the 31-year-old chef’s dishes on BBC iPlayer including his spectacular ‘Golden Empire’ dessert, Stewed Empire Apple with hazelnut crumble, meadowsweet custard and golden candy apples. The veteran judging panel of critic Matthew Fort, doyenne of British cookery Prue Leith and acclaimed restaurateur Oliver Peyton all gave this dish a perfect 10.

Better still taste it along with his other courses – Indian-influenced starter ‘From Pakoras to the Palace’, a hake and cockle dish called ‘By The Seaside’, ‘Time for Tea’, roast loin of Cumbrian beef with roast farm vegetables and ‘beef’ tea – at lunchtimes, Wednesday to Saturday (12 pm to 1.30pm) in the acclaimed restaurant inside The Midland Hotel. Price is £55 a head. Book here

Adam, from East Manchester, fought off tough competition from Cheshire-born Kim Woodward from the Savoy Grill in Central London, and Liverpool-born Matt Worswick of The Latymer in Surrey, to be crowned the North West heats winner.

The ‘Great Britons’ themed feast celebrates the Queen’s 90th birthday and the ordinary people who have been recognised on the Queen’s birthday and New Year’s honours' list or their extraordinary achievements in different walks of life. The French by Simon Rogan was created by Simon Rogan, a Great British Menu veteran from previous series who is appearing as a judge in this year’s regional heats.

During the Manchester Food and Drink Festival in October Adam Reid will be hosting his own pop-up restaurant for three days in the Albert Square hub. Buy your tickets here
