Manchester Food and Drink Festival is celebrating its 20th festival birthday this Autumn, and Tampopo opened its doors, as the city’s first Pan Asian restaurant 20 years ago this year. This means that 2 of Manchester’s most iconic food brands are celebrating a big, double decade milestone, and they are planning a party that will do this special birthday justice! A food, drink and dancing extravaganza will come to the Mayfield Depot for one night only on Friday 29th September, and promises a night to remember as some of Manchester’s best known friends of both brands join in the fun.
The party will be in aid of the Tim Bacon Foundation, with £5 from each ticket price donated to the foundation and lots of fundraising on the night too.
The party is inspired by the Tampopo20 exhibition recently launched to commemorate the restaurant’s 20th birthday in May. Participants in the exhibition will be joining forces with the Festival and Tampopo to create the party of the year in an extraordinary venue, and the exhibition itself will find a new home for the night at Mayfield Depot. Drawing inspiration from South-East Asian Full Moon Parties, the evening will commence with a cocktail bucket reception served alongside canapes of Tampopo classic starters. This will set the tone for an evening of stunning street food, cracking cocktails and a host of Manchester icons taking to the stage. The full line up is yet to be announced but will commence with a performance by Happy Monday’s Rowetta and culminate with a DJ set from Hacienda’s Graeme Park – both Tampopo and MFDF fans who starred in Tampopo20.Tampopo will be serving a feast of their favourite dishes to party-goers throughout the evening including dishes inspired by masterchef finalist and author Jacki Kearney (also part of the Tampopo20 Exhibition).
The Mayfield depot building is part of the 24 acre Mayfield site in Manchester’s city centre. The Mayfield Partnership – a joint venture between Manchester City Council, LCR, Transport for Greater Manchester and U+I – is bringing forward plans to transform the area into a thriving, mixed-use community.The intention is to maintain the historic buildings on the site and make the most of the area’s heritage.
The Mayfield Depot building is one of the city’s most jaw-dropping spaces. Breathing new life into this forgotten space, Mayfield will be transformed for this banquet into an extraordinary dining room. The MFDF provides a one-off chance to eat, drink and dance in this historic venue.
