The party’s started – Manchester Food and Drink Festival is up and cooking

11 September 2015

THE 18th Manchester Food and Drink Festival is underway and with the sun beaming down on the Albert Square Hub the street food stalls and bars have been doing a roaring trade.

The official launch party on Thursday, September 10, was in the perfect venue – the Corn Exchange, now taking shape as an all-in culinary destination in its own right. Food for the event came from resident eateries Salvi’s, Tampopo, Pho, Pizza Express, Wahaca (which chose that night to open) and Mowgli, which is imminent.

Then the party moved over to the Hub for a DJ set from Graeme Park and much merriment to celebrate what looks to be an epic 10 days ahead, culminating in the Gala Dinner and Manchester Food and Drink Awards at Manchester Cathedral on Monday, September 21.

Albert Square is the epicentre, featuring cutting-edge food and drink, cocktails and craft beer, events, street food, producers’ markets, live music, DJ sessions and so much more, but the resurgent Fringe and and the Bitten Banquets offer a host of events, many unique to MFDF. Don't miss, too, over the opening weekend The Big Indie Wine Fest and the Great Manchester Bake-off on Sunday, September 13.

Here are 10 things to look out for at MFDF 2015. Below a gallery of the opening day's delights:
