Top chef Robert Owen Brown turns Italian for two nights only

18 April 2016 by Neil Sowerby

ROBERTO Owen Bruno – it has a certain ring to it, but TOM never expected to see that arch-exponent of Northern English nose to tail traditional food guest cheffing  at Manchester’s longest running Italian restaurant, Don Giovanni.

We remember when Robert Owen Brown was promoting his cook book, Crispy Squirrel and Vimto Trifle he told us he deiberately avoided tomatoes and olive oil in his cooking at the Mark Addy gastropub.

Which makes Rob’s two exclusive nights in the Oxford Street Italian’s private dining room all the more fascinating. On April 27 and 28 he will be serving up a five-course menu with an Italian twist to 30 foodies each night. Price? Just £45 a head.

He’ll naturally be sourcing locally for dishes such as hand-dived scallops with Morecambe Bay shrimp tortellini and thyme-smoked rabbit,

Robert says: “The space in Don Giovanni is perfect for this unique experience. I lived in Italy for a short time and have always loved the cuisine, so this sounded like a great opportunity. I really enjoyed creating this menu and am looking forward to cooking it for the customers.”

Tickets cost £45 and include five courses with wine pairings for each course. They can be bought via this link

Don Giovanni, Peter House, 1-2 Oxford St, Manchester M1 5AN. 0161 228 2482.
