IT’s not just Manchester City’s Etihad Campus that’s expanding big time in the north east of the city. Pioneering restaurant/bar Vermilion/Cinnabar has announced it it is to create the ‘Vermilion Hall’, a vast space for weddings and corporate event, accommodating up to 800 guests.
It will be located in same premises as the ultra-glamorous Thai/Indian restaurant Vermilion and its upstairs bar, Cinammon. The first phase of the event hall will be completed by this July and cater for 200 guests; the second and final phase (for 600 guests) will be completed in December – just in time to celebrate the luxury venue’s decade in operation. Back then Miles Platting was uncharted territory for such an ambitious project. Now it looks like canny foresight as the area develops out of recognition.
As for the ‘Vermilion Hall’ expect extreme opulence and an eye for detail. Based inside an enormous white warehouse, both Vermilion and Cinnabar benefited from stunning design created by Miguel Cancio Martins of Buddha Bar fame.
This cocktail lounge was described by manchesterbars.com as “without doubt the most impressive bar in Manchester, if not the UK” and by CityLife as “like stepping out of the Tardis into the sense-smacking depths of Thai/Asian sublimity” (Five stars). It has attracted a string of world-renowned DJs, while Girls Aloud held their breaking party there. The restaurant has built up a loyal customer base, attracting more than 2,000 customers a week.
Situated next to Sport City in Ancoats, it has been one of the major drivers of regeneration in New East Manchester since opening in 2007. The complex is owned by Seamark, a global leader in the food sector based in Manchester. It has operations in Manchester, Bangladesh and New York and has been actively involved in educational and charitable work both in the UK and on the Indian sub-continent.
