ANOTHER year of MMM – Manchester missing out on Michelin – but congratulations to Moor Hall at Aughton, near Ormskirk, given a five star review after a Taste of Manchester Away Day.
Everything about this restaurant with rooms that only opened in March, in particular the presence of ex L’Enclume head chef Mark Birchall in the kitchen, yelled ‘One Star now’.
Otherwise the 2018 Michelin UK stars announcement was the usual mix of predictable (chefs starred in previous establishments regaining them quickly in their new places) and unpredictable (Pacos Tacos in Bristol, a pub in County Clare), while joining The Fat Duck, Gordon Ramsay, Ducasse at The Dorchester and The Waterside, Bray as our fifth three star restaurant is Araki, a £300 a head (without booze) nine-seat sushi restaurant in London.
