As one of the finest restaurants in Manchester city centre, Australasia doesn’t spring to mind straight away as a “sharing” kind of place. But amid the delicious shades of stone and floral displays, the soft lighting and comfortable booths there’s a magical time to be had by those who are willing to share. The menu is unique in that it combines sushi, sashimi with Pan-Asian delicacies such as soft shell crab Californian rolls, red and white kimchi and seared hand dived scallops with spicy honey glazed pork. We’re particularly addicted to the popcorn tempura and teriyaki-dipped sweet potatoes from the robata grill. The wine list includes intriguing options in the lower and upper registers, while cocktails and the special “fruit” waters are a treat. The orange and Thai ginger goes particularly well with the kind of flavours you’ll find here. Lunch is a great option for those on a budget at around £11 for two courses.
