Alex Shaw teams up with Robert Owen Brown at the Hinchliffe

28 September 2017 by Neil Sowerby

DREAM teams in the kitchen don’t come much better than this. ToM was proud to be the first media outlet to track chef Robert Owen Brown to his new dining pub venture, the Hinchliffe Arms, just across the Yorkshire border (‘Squirrels take cover!'). Very exciting; even more exciting now that we hear he is being joined there by Alex Shaw (above), another chef who taps into the essence of Northern food.

Hiring Alex is quite a coup. At the 2015 Manchester Food and Drink Awards he won Chef of the Year for his work in the kitchen at West Didsbury’s Volta. Moving onto the Eagle and Child at Ramsbottom his fabulous menus played a major part in it recently securing 2017 Great British Pub of the Year, organised by trade bible The Morning Advertiser.

The Hinchliffe in beautiful Cragg Vale, is owned by JW Lees. Its transformation into a must-visit dining destination is really taking shape now with glowing social media tributes to recent dishes of grouse and suckling pig. It looks set to even eclipse ROB’s last permanent billet, the Mark Addy.
