Say cheese! An Evening With Sean Wilson and Robert Owen Brown

7 August 2017 by Neil Sowerby

TASTE of Manchester was happy to break the story about our favourite chef, Robert Owen Brown taking over a Yorkshire pub – the rather lovely The Hinchliffe Arms in Cragg Vale. The Lancashire exodus continues when for one night only ex-Corrie star and cheesemaker Sean Wilson hosts a Gourmet Evening there.

On Wednesday, August 23 the man who was Martin Platt will recount his career-switching exploits in ‘From Cobbles to Cheese’, accompanied by a four course dinner.

OK, one of them is Sean’s cheese plate, centred on his Smelly Ha'peth blue cheese and you do get a goodie bag with a selection of Sean’s Saddleworth cheeses to take home.

The res of the £45 a head menu reads: mackerel with choucroute, bacon, black pudding and mustard sauce; ballotine of chicken stuffed with venison, walnuts and berries with boulangere potatoes and sweet slow cooked carrots with broad beans; black pepper pavlova with passion fruit, chantilly cream, cherries and pistachio brittle.

Hinchliffe Arms, Cragg Vale, near Hebden Bridge HX7 5TA. 01422 883256. Places are extremely limited and must be booked in advance. Cragg Vale is 25 miles’ drive from Manchester. Trains on the Calder Valley stop at Mytholmroyd, a 10 minute taxi drive away from the Hinchliffe Arms.
