Award winning street food champions GRUB have teamed up with Manchester City Council to launch a new monthly food and drink festival in Wythenshawe which will start on Saturday 23rd July.
'GRUB Carnival - The Travelling Food Festival', will be a series of events which bring together the very best GRUB street food traders, pop up brewery bars, produce stalls and a stacked stage of entertainment. This inclusive, family-friendly event has been designed to bring people together, but it also has big ambitions to become a focal point for the community by providing new jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities alongside a space for local creatives.
The first GRUB Carnival will pitch up on Saturday 23rd July outside the former Wythenshawe indoor market. Top notch street food traders will include Desert Island Dumplings, Rad Burger, Il Forno, The Neighbourhood Coop, Thief Street Grill & Waffle and The Chaat Walas. Paradiso Authentic Italian and Marzipan Mcr will be in charge of the sweet stuff.
There’ll also be a mini take-home produce market full of independent food and drink producers who are all as local as possible. The GRUB Carnival bar will be stacked with craft beer from the likes of north west brewers like Vocation Brewery, Squawk Brew Co. Rivington Brew Co and many more plus the Runaway Brewery team will be there talking about their beers.
A selection of cocktails, mocktails, wines and soft drinks will also be available, including freshly canned pops produced by Manchester-based Steep Soda. The GRUB Carnival tent will be home to a stage full of live entertainment and DJs and there’ll be lawn games to keep the kids (and adults) amused.
GRUB also wants to reach out to the Wythenshawe community to offer support to budding entrepreneurs through their ‘School Of GRUB’ scheme. This is a free to attend workshop with successful street food traders offering advice on how to get started in the business. Successful candidates are then offered free mentoring from GRUB and a helping hand with their first street food gig. Further details of this Wythenshawe-based workshop will be forthcoming soon.
GRUB also want to hear from local businesses, residents, artists, musicians and community groups who might want to get involved in the event. If that sounds like you then please email GRUB at [email protected]
Jason Bailey, Director of GRUB said: "It’s amazing to have the opportunity to bring this smashing new market to Wythenshawe and we can’t wait to bring folk together to have a great time. We’ve got big hopes that this event is just the start of great things happening in Wythenshawe”.
GRUB Carnival kicks off Saturday 23rd July at 12 noon and runs until 8pm. The event is free entry, no tickets are needed and everyone (including dogs) is welcome. Full details of the event can be found on the event page HERE. The event can be found at Wythenshawe Civic Centre, Rowlandsway, Wythenshawe M22 5RG.
