Award winning luxury tiki bar Lono Cove opens in the Northern Quarter

12 October 2021 by Deanna Thomas

A Polynesian party is coming to Manchester in the form of award-winning luxury tiki bar, Lono Cove.

Lono Cove Manchester is the second venue from Edgey Bars, the company owned by charismatic bartender turned operator Luke Edge. Luke is the behind the successful, award winning Lono Cove Chester which opened in 2018 and has become a favourite drinking spot for locals and tourists.

With a particular passion for rum and tiki drinks, Luke has been inspired by Tiki Bars in America and wanted to design a high-end cocktail bar that had all the magic of tiki but in a sumptuous and contemporary setting. Lono Cove has been designed to be an escapist cocktail paradise. An immersive tiki-style melange of slick modern finishes, island resort chic and enough tropical flourishes to make you forget the Pennine rain shadow.

The ground floor interior of the two-floor venue features gilded birdcages encasing blush pink leather booths for six around the brass-topped, well stocked bar. The basement bar is decked out with stunning floral décor, a DJ and a drinks offering that will get the party started. With a capacity for 75 guests (30 seated) this is the perfect place for private parties, cocktail masterclasses and a place to escape the outside world whilst you dance the night away.

The drinks menu serves a range of tropical cocktails using only the best ingredients and a wide variety of premium spirits. These include Takamaka Rum, based in the Seychelles, who are currently collaborating with Lono to create their own Lono Cove spiced rum.

Must try drinks include the Blue Macaw, a stunning cocktail made from Tanqueray gin, Blue Orange, aquafaba and citrus. There is also a range of sharing cocktails including the Tiki favourite Zombie Hoard, served in a Lono Zombie mug, containing Takamaka blanc, Grand Marnier, Wray & Nephew, absinthe and various fruit juices. A donation goes to conservation charity One Tree Planted from every Zombie sold.

Another sharing sensation is Treasure chest, full of Polynesian flavours including Finlandia vodka, passion fruit, pineapple and vanilla. A selection of beers, wine and straight up spirits are also available.

Lono Cove will open Monday to Thursday 4pm – 1am / Friday and Saturdays 1pm – 3am and Sundays 1pm – 1am
