B.EAT STREET DONATES £1 FROM EVERY DRINK TO CHRISTIE'S ON FRIDAY, May 19

10 May 2017 by Neil Sowerby

LEGENDARY DJ Gareth Brooks will be hosting a fundraising event at the revived B.Eat Street at the Great Northern on Friday,  May 19 to raise vital funds for cancer hospital The Christie following the recent devastating fire there.

Brooks is best known for two things; his legendary hip-hop nights at Hula and his lengthy beard. From 5pm-2pm at Manchester’s coolest bar and street food collective, he will be combining the pulling power of both to attract other hairy-faced Mancunians to  this special ‘fund razor’

‘Beards Against the Cancer’ is a group that Gareth created a couple of years ago after being treated for the disease a few years back at The Christie. The idea came about after Gareth joked with a friend that he ‘was going to grow his beard until he got rid of the tumour’.

A few friends agreed to do the same and after pulling together to organise an initial fundraising night which saw Gareth spin tunes alongside local DJ’s Elliot Eastwick, Bucky and Baggy, the group received worldwide acknowledgement and support from celebs such as Michelle Keegan, Tina O’ Brien, Manchester band Elbow and City skipper Vincent Kompany, who all sported ‘Beards Against the Cancer’ t-shirts designed by Gareth as part of the campaign.

For this second hair-raising gig, Gareth is curating a programme of renowned guest DJs. He will also be on hand selling limited edition ‘Beards Against the Cancer’ t-shirts and mugs and Beat Street will be donating £1 from every drink purchased on the night to further help the cause.

Alongside the regular roster of bars up along Deansgate Mews, there will be food on sale from Dirty Food Revolution (specialising in dirty gourmet burgers) and Chaat Cart Indian street food (below).
