Beef and Pudding dining pub opens with a £98 rib roast

8 April 2014

Manchester's famous financial quarter has a meaty new arrival in the shape of the New Moon Company's Beef and Pudding. It's located in the former premises of The Crown and amid a classy interior that combines reclaimed vintage metalwork, leather and tiling, diners and drinkers can tuck into a menu that riffs on Great British favourites.

There are all sorts of delights to explore on the menu from beer-battered fish and chips, a steak and venison pudding and even rare breed delights such as Herdwick lamb stew and dumplings and Old Spot pork belly. As the name suggests, it's a beef-lover's paradise.

We particularly like the sound of The Manchester Meet (£98!)- a soon to be new addition to our Top 10 Roasts, we think - and comprised of a 7lb  "‘Mother of a’ rib joint" served on the bone with a number of sauces, dripping chips, peas and carrots, with a fine selection of beers available on draught and by the bottle.

Former Parlour chef

The duo behind the new venue are David Mooney and Paul Newman while the interior has been designed by Warrington's DV8 Designs. Head chef is Nic Duncan, formerly of The Parlour in Chorlton, which won Observer Food Monthly's Sunday Lunch of the Year award.

As we reported back in January, diners might recognise one of the owners, David Mooney. He used to present a regional food show, back in the days before food became the new rock and roll, called 'Food Hunter' and he has also made guest appearances on the Hairy Bikers various series.
