BEER’S bonding with Art goes beyond colourful cans and pump clips. That’s why Manchester Beer Week (June 29-July 8) is launching a competition to discover what photograph you feel best captures Manchester's beer scene.
ToM is going to enter the above image, captured in Cloudwater’s Tap on Sheffield Street, for the contest organised in collaboration with MancMade.
Whether its an old pub, a half-drunk pint, a crowded bar, a pub dog, a mash tun or even a bottle enjoyed in the comfort of your own home, the MBW organisers want you to submit your best pictures.
You don’t have to be from Manchester to enter – or even a professional photographer – as long as you submit a shot that captures Manchester and its bars, pubs, breweries or beer.
A panel of judges will then select 12 finalists and the pictures will be printed, framed and displayed at two venues that are quintessentially Mancunian, The Brink and The Gaslamp, throughout Manchester Beer Week.
From there, it is up to the public to check out the pictures and vote for their winner online here. The winner will receive a bunch of goodies, featuring beer and merchandise, as well as a full page featuring their photo in the programme for next year's Manchester Beer Week.
The public will also be able to bid on the final 12 pictures via a silent auction. Simply leave your name, contact details and bid at the bar in the venue where the picture is featured.
All money raised will go to Mustard Tree, the chosen charity of Manchester Beer Week 2018.
Enter by posting your photo on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtags #MancMade and #MBWPhotoComp. Make sure you also follow both Manchester Beer Week (@manchesterbeerweek) and MancMade (@mancmade) and tag them in your photos. If you don't use Instagram, you can still submit entries by emailing them to [email protected]. Closing date for entries is 11pm on June 8.
MBW brewery-restaurant collaborations Another key festival event also has an art focus. Manchester Beer Week is teaming up with the Whitworth Art Gallery to find eight local artists to join each restaurant and brewery pairing. These artists will create one-off pieces for use as the labels for each beer and the final artworks will be displayed as part of an exhibition at the Whitworth on Thursday, June 28. The pieces will also be auctioned to raise money for Mustard Tree.
