IT’S not just the Mackie Mayor and the new look Bay Horse giving fresh impetus to the Northern Quarter food and drink scene. Blawd Co are hardly newcomers, having been the in-house baker for Common Bar, but Iwan Roberts and Lucy Jackson’s first independent venue in Tib Street gives them a proper showcase for their amazing baking.
Siop Shop looks the smart part, featuring works by local artists, and the casual menu is attractive, featuring their trademark baked goods (blawd means flour in Welsh) but savoury dishes such as sweet potato, coconut and lime soup and a range of salads, all around the fiver mark.
Not that they are neglecting the handmade donuts that made their name, working out of Common's basement. Also worth checking out – their banana bread and caramel brownies.
