WHEN we put Crazy Pedro’s in our Taste Top 5 Pizza Places it wasn’t for their authentic sourcing of ingredients or the slow-risen elasticity of their sourdough. We just like the chutzpah of their toppings, the sum of the random parts often surprisingly tasty. That’s the case with their January special – the Bloody Mary.
Surely this is the perfect calorific hangover cure, except for the temptation of a brace of Dizzee Mescal cocktails to accompany, which might be a bad idea for Dry January.
ToM stuck to to beer when we dropped into the Bridge Street original to check out the 16 inch disc of crisp dough topped with Bloody Mary marinated shrimp (vodka, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, cracked black pepper, celery salt), freshly grated horseradish, black olives, watercress and onion. Extra Tabasco and Worcester sauce are available for the steely of tonsil.
Verdict: Sharp and satisfying, no really vodka in evidence, just some fat prawns and the usual juicy tomato sauce with a nose-clearing blast of horseradish. Viva Pedro once again.
