Book now for New Market Dairy's ‘Cheese and Wine Friday’ in Altrincham

18 October 2019 by Neil Sowerby

BLESSED are the cheesemakers (with a nod to Life Of Brian). Multi award-winning Martin Gott, creator of the Lake District’s iconic St James cheese (above) has landed in Altrincham.

He has set up a shop in New Market Square, serving up an array of handmade cheeses from across the British Isles, alongside a carefully curated selection of artisan cheeses from further afield. Thanks to the success of his his benchmark buttery cheese he was shortlisted as food producer of the year in this year’s BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards.

To introduce himself further Martin is set to host the first of many informal, cheese-based Friday evenings at 6.30pm on October 25 at New Market Dairy on New Market Square. To us it looks a perfect way to research the UK’s rich artisan cheese scene.

Proceedings will get underway with a glass of fizz paired with a Sicilian inspired amuse bouches created by neighbours Little Orange Co (who’ll also provide the sweet send-off).

After which Martin will take you on a journey of discovery introducing a selection of naturally made cheeses, served with breads and crackers from Lovingly Artisan Bakery, all paired with organic and biodynamic wines chosen by Nic Rezzouk from Reserve Wines

Guests will taste different profiles of cheese from the really young and fresh, to more mature cheeses, touching on the different styles, milks and techniques involved in making them.

Tickets are £30 a head and must be booked in advance as places are limited. Buy them here
