5 March 2025 by Rhiannon Ingle

Pip, the new restaurant from acclaimed chef Mary-Ellen McTague, is now open for reservations ahead of its launch at Treehouse Hotel Manchester next week, Wednesday 19th March, with reservations now available from Thursday 20th March.

The all-day restaurant champions seasonality and low-waste cooking, with a menu featuring locally sourced ingredients from trusted producers - including Littlewoods Butchers, Cinderwood Market Garden, Organic North, and Courtyard Dairy.

The new eatery, located on the corner of Deansgate & Blackfriars Street, has a cracking good menu with snack options including; Old Winchester Cheese Gougères, Carlington Oysters and Pickles & Ferments just to name a few.

Pip's small plates offerings include; Smoked Chalk Stream Trout with Mustard Cream, Fermented Rhubarb Ketchup with Rye, Hibiscus-glazed beets with Radicchio, Blood Orange and Hazelnut, Mussels with Cider, Burnt Butter & Wild Garlic and many more.

As for the grill and large plates heavy hitters, Pip will be serving up Lancashire Hot Pot with Pickled Red Cabbage (Braised Lamb Shoulder & Oyster Ketchup or Roast Root Vegetable & Mushroom Ketchup), Braised Leek & Butter Bean Gratin with Pickled Mushroom and Green Sauce as well as Grilled Dayboat Fish with Sea Vegetables, Bergamot & Cockle Broth.

And it's clear just as much thought has gone into the sides as the main plates with choices including; Buttered Leafy Greens, Cauliflower & Old Winchester Gratin, Crushed Potatoes with Smoked Dulse Butter and Locally Grown Salad Leaves with Mustard Vinaigrette.

Any pie-lovers out there will be buzzing as Pip is also putting on a spread of proper good pies including; a Celeriac & Caramelised Onion Butter Pie, a Wild Rabbit & Leek Pasty, a Crab & Lobster Thermidor Pie and Beef & London Black Porter Pudding – all served with Crushed Potatoes, Creamed Potatoes or Chips, and Buttered Greens or Dressed Leaves.

And for sweet treats? Well, diners can indulge in a Treacle Tart with Earl Grey and Bergamot, a Poached Rhubarb with Rosewater Cream & Black Pepper Meringue and a Flourless Chocolate Cake with Fennel Cream and Toasted White Chocolate Cream.

You can add Pip to your roast roster too, as its Sunday Menu offers £31 for two courses or £38 for three courses.  Mains include Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding & Horseradish Sauce, a Slow Roast Porchetta Crackling with  Fennel Salt and Smoked Apple Sauce, a Roast Herb Fed Chicken and a Truffled Leek Sauce, a Pip Fish Pie,  and a Braised Leek & Butterbean Gratin with Pickled Mushroom & Red Wine Sauce – all served with Caramelised Onion Purée, Seasonal Greens, Beef Dripping or Vegan Roast Potatoes, and Gravy or Sauce. Available every Sunday, from 1pm until 8pm (last reservation at 7.45pm).
