Bored of Dating Apps? Try these new Singles Only Events, classes and workshops

15 September 2022 by Taste of Manchester

Bored of Dating Apps (BODA) is a series of in-person events which focus on the joy of community people’s mental health in matters of the heart. They create an easy-going environment where friendship is just as important as romance. Jessica Evans, the founder of BODA, started out after finding herself with ‘dating app fatigue’ and was looking for a way to form new friendships and relationships in a more organic setting.

Her popular events have been going down a storm in Liverpool so we are excited to announce they’ll be launching with an event in Manchester on 20th October. Bored Of Dating Apps (BODA) will host a singles only edition of Sip & Paint (an event created by Libby Ayres) at GRUB.

“There is going to be a rebellion against dating apps and doing everything online,” says Jessica Evans. “People don’t want to feel constrained to just social media, dating apps and WhatsApp anymore.”

BODA’s audience is men and women in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Past events have generally seen an equal split of males and females with around 90% of attendees rocking up solo to embrace the experience to the full extent.

The series of events will include dumpling making masterclasses, pasta workshops, cheese and wine supper clubs, hikes, quizzes, yoga socials, an autumnal singles weekend retreat and of course their Manchester Sip & Paint launch evening at GRUB.

GRUB is a street food and drinks events company founded in 2014 by husband and wife team Jason Bailey and Juliana Bailey. Now based at Red Bank in Manchester’s Green Quarter, GRUB hosts an amazing industrial events space, an independent cinema, a huge beer garden and more.

Libby’s Sip & Paint nights are a way to learn to paint in a relaxed, fun and sociable environment. Libby uses her synaesthesia to experience colours as she listens to music. During this unique session she will guide guests through her processes and techniques for using acrylic paints to create a beautiful canvas for guests to take home. All abilities are welcome.

As with any of the BODA events, the event will be available to singles only. BODA has a strict singles' policy, so you can look forward to being in the room with potent new pals, a community group and maybe even romance…

In a nutshell, this is an event where whether you meet someone or not, the activities are so varied and fun, and the people are so welcoming and genuine that you will have a good night, no matter what happens.

Tickets are £35 and include a complimentary drink, all necessary art equipment, your artwork to take home and of course a wonderful social evening with BODA.
