SAN Carlo gave us a sneak preview of their new Champagne Bar inside the Trafford Centre Selfridges just before it opened this week and it banished all thoughts of rehydrating merely with water during the current heatwave. Bring on the bubbly!
It looks as radiant as a cloudless sky. A 20ft wide ‘cloud’ chandelier floats over the mrble bar, inspired by the warm effervescence of bubbling champagne and the heritage of Italian Murano glass chandeliers.
It is made from 1,000 individual cast glass discs, each one hand made in the Veneto region of Italy. The champagne bar is the sixth Selfridges San Carlo Group venue and follows the success of the most recent, Alto by San Carlo on the rooftop of Selfridges in London.
The standalone bar with its pink leather bar stools and trio of exclusive booths is located in the newly refurbished accessories hall on the Centre’s lower level. The all day venue will serve an expertly curated champagne, prosecco, wine and cocktail list, with more than ten choices of champagne and prosecco served by the glass or bottle, 18 gins (including Manchester’s own finest) alongside a menu of charcuterie and shellfish plates.
The menu also includes a luxurious caviar or oyster offering – caviar starts at £48 for 30g, while oysters come in threes (£7), six (£13) or nine (£19).
The family-owned Italian chain has 21 individually designed venues in Manchester, Birmingham Cheshire, Liverpool, Leeds, Roundhay, Bristol, Leicester and London and further afield diners enjoy San Carlo restaurants in Qatar, Riyadh, Bahrain and Bangkok.
The Trafford Centre venue is their sixth partnership with Selfridges, following the opening of rooftop restaurant Alto at the London shop last year.
San Carlo also recently announced they will be opening an ambitious 180 cover restaurant at Manchester Airport’s new £1bn Super Terminal 2.
