Bye bye Byron as burger chain announces it’s quitting Corn Exchange

4 October 2017

IT’S a landmark in a way – the first chain incomer to jump ship from the Corn Exchange. Byron Burger have announced plans to close their restaurant in the food complex, home to 12 other eaterie/bars including fellow national brands Wahaca, Vapiano and Pho alongside more local operators Salvi's, Tampopo and Mowgli.

Byron opened within the renovated grade II-listed building on Exchange Square in September 2015, but now expects to cease trading in early 2018, once the lease has been assigned to a new tenant. They are consolidating business at their two other city centre outlets, Deansgate and Piccadilly Gardens.

Their Corn Exchange departure follows that of London-based premium Thai chain Busbaba from the Printworks across the road in March. They blamed it on "the number of openings in the city over the last twelve months".

Better news for the Corn Exchange – Glasgow steak and gin house, Alston Bar & Beef, is set to open there shortly, followed by the launch of the 114-bed Roomzzz aparthotel later this year.
