CHILLI B, by May Wakefield, is set to open inside the former Smithfield Market building, Mackie Mayor on Tuesday, October 22, taking over the Baohouse stall. This authentic Thai will offer a regularly changing menu inspired by May's childhood memories of learning to cook with her mother.
Expect dishes from May’s favourite Bangkok street food vendors – Goyteow Nam (noodle soup), Kow Man Gai (steamed chicken on rice), and Kow Soi (yellow curry noodles).
Chef May old us: “I am proud to be part of this inspiring collective of the very best of Northern food visionaries and pleased to be working with Nick and Jenny for the first time after knowing each other for so many years”.
Nick Johnson and Jenny Thompson, founders of first Altrincham Market House and then Mackie Mayor, first crossed paths with May and her husband Steve Wakefield back in the Nineties when they owned Atlas Bar on Deansgate. Steve and May, then working at the Chiang Rai, went on to open their own Chilli Banana Thai restaurants in Cheshire.
Nick told us: “After a great two years with us, Baohouse are hanging up their apron strings to concentrate on their three other kitchens/bakeries; Wolfhouse Bakery (still at Mackie) and Wolfhouse Kitchen and Bakery in Market House, Altrincham.”
Chilli B will serve lunch and dinner Tue-Thu from midday until 10pm, Fri-Sat 12pm - 11pm and Sun until 6pm.
