Damson MediaCity branch to open 1st Feb

24 January 2013

A new outlet of Modern British Damson restaurant will open in MediaCityUK next Friday (1st February) becoming the first completely independent food brand to arrive at the international media hub.

Established in 2009 by Steve Pilling (formerly of the Chop House chain), and chef Simon Stanley, the team tapped into the trend for neighbourhood restaurants opening in Heaton Moor three years ago.

Opening shortly, the restaurant site is situated at the heart of the complex overlooking the MediaCityUK garden and piazza, on a second floor location with a 140 cover capacity alongside facilities for meetings and private dining.

New menu

Chef Partner Simon Stanley will bring his creativity and love of local ingredients to this new venue though a menu developed in tandem with the Heaton Moor outlet. The menu will include signature dishes such as Whitby crab and parsley risotto with salt and vinegar cockles and grilled scallops with slow-cooked Middle White pork belly and Bury black pudding croquettes.

Examples of dessert include spiced apple puree, golden raisins and caramelized pain per du with roasted pear, honey and yoghurt ice cream, Earl Grey tea jelly and honeycomb.

Training opportunities

The new site has been developed in association with Salford City College alongside their multi-million pound new “skills centre” called FutureSkills at MediaCityUK. Phase one of this project opens early 2013. This partnership will allow Damson’s expert team to deliver training to Salford City College’s hospitality learners via apprentice schemes that will allow students to immerse themselves in the business to gain experience at the same time as industry relevant qualifications.

Steve and Simon are no strangers to training. Apprentices who have worked with the pair have gone on to pursue careers at some of the best restaurants in the country including Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons, The Star Inn and Bath Priory.

Steve Pilling said: “This is one of the most exciting projects I’ve been involved in yet. The opportunity to be at the forefront of a new dining community in the region’s most exciting location and to invest in the region’s hospitality industry at the same time is a fantastic thing.”
