Diecast – A new beer hall, night market, bakery and food hall is heading to Manchester

14 February 2022 by Deanna Thomas

The creative team behind Ramona & The Firehouse on Swan Street are planning to open a huge new creative neighbourhood in the city centre. Diecast Manchester will take over a 120,000 square foot site on Store Street and will incorporate a beer hall, a tap room, a night market, an artisan bakery and new food hall, deli and coffee shop. There will also be a Barbecue Open Kitchen serving rustic street food cooked on a wood-fired grill.

Located between Store Street and Ducie Street, the site is being developed by A Very Inc, headed up by directors Joel Wilkinson, Adelaide Winter, Dan Mullen, founders of Mission Mars and the people responsible for Albert Schloss, Deaf Institute, Ramona and The Firehouse.

The 200,000 sq ft plot in the city centre includes a die-cast foundry which dates back to 1870, and a larger modern warehouse from 1983, complete with high ceilings and corrugated steel exterior.

The team have a track record of breathing life back into historic, derelict buildings in the Piccadilly East neighbourhood - Swan Street’s Ramona and The Firehouse are situated in a totally renovated MOT garage.

The new site will take the name of the former Diecast Presbar Factory, one of Manchester’s biggest. It will feature a large beer hall and brewery, as well as a night market full of independent retailers, a bakery, offices. It will also incorporate canal side gardens, adding to more green spaces within the city centre. The outside spaces will feature long tables, a herb garden and bee hives.

The team haven’t yet specified when Diecast is expected to open and, because it’s early days, images of the site are arty shots of what it currently looks like.
