THE repopulation of Spinningfields Left Bank with credible food and drink venues continues apace with the opening of The Dockyard, little brother of the Media City original, which scooped Pub of the Year in the 2014 Manchester Food and Drink Awards.
“A proper pub serving proper food and proper ale” it says on the shiny new website. So quite a transformation from its days as yet another Cafe Rouge.
The proper ale includes the indie likes of Salford's Seven Brothers and First Chop alongside brews from Manchester's Brightside, Shindigger and Runaway with cask pints starting from £3.15 – good for the city. Compare its only Spinningfields rival, the Oast House.
Food is different from at Salford Quays, but Miss Betty burger (£7.95), mustard meatloaf (£5.95) and pies of the day (£5.95) all follow canny owner Steve Pilling’s hearty pub grub template.
