Don’t miss these brilliant autumn family activities at Platt Fields

13 September 2022 by Taste of Manchester

Although the official start of MFDF has been postponed until Thursday 22nd September, fringe events at the Harvest Festival, Platt Fields Market Garden are still going ahead.

There are loads of brilliant family activities to take part in over the weekend.

Manchester Urban Diggers (MUD) are running two events with Eat Well MCR to raise funds and feed people who may otherwise not get a nutritious hot meal.

MUD have been funded by R4GM to glean up to 15 tonnes of food that would otherwise go to waste from farms and fruit trees and are now working with Eat Well MCR to distribute this beautiful produce to the people of Manchester in the form of a hot, nutritious meal.

Gleaning is the act of collecting leftover crops from farmers' fields after they have been commercially harvested or on fields where it is not economically profitable to harvest. It is a traditional practice that is even described in the Hebrew Bible to become a legally enforced entitlement of those in need.

As part of this project MUD and Eat Well MCR are hosting a harvest festival and a harvest feast...all funds raised will go back into the projects MUD and Eat Well run.

Gleaning days - 15th and 16th September from Platt Fields Market Garden 9am-4pm. Surplus is donated to charities including FareShare and Open Kitchen MCR. Want to go gleaning? Call Jo 07429263470.
