Whether you survived a pretty boozy 2024 and fancy a month off or whether you've been sober or sober-curious for quite some time now - it's clear that Hinterland is definitely the place to be during the annual Dry Jan challenge.
Based just next to the Arndale and tucked away under the Buddhist Centre, Hinterland is all about providing a new way to socialise, giving people a space to foster friendships and enjoy good company without the need for alcohol.
This joint is currently Manchester’s only permanent and purpose-built alcohol-free bar and cafe, serving top-class alcohol-free cocktails and beers, sustainably and ethically sourced.
Hinterland offers an extensive menu of no and low beers, vinos, spirits and eight cracking cocktails including The Accountant Martini - Lyre’s White Cane, passion fruit, lime, and a hint of vanilla. Refreshingly balanced, sweet, and tangy - as well as the NoGroni which is, as you'd have guessed, a non-alcoholic twist on the 1919 classic. Sweet, short, and packing a deliciously bitter surprise.
And it's not just 0% drinks they serve up as Hinterland also makes some great coffee, courtesy of Blossom Espresso, alongside a bunch of other hot bevs including every tea you could think of, a banging chili hot chocolate, masala chai and Japanese matcha that'll be sure to warm your cockles. "We offer an alternative to the typical noisy bar scene that’s calmer, more mindful, and emphasizes quality social interactions," Hinterland explains. "Nearly every social activity is centred around alcohol. Our mission is to show that this can be different. "We know that many people want to have a more relaxed space to socialise on a deeper and more meaningful level. Hinterland is for those people. Whatever your reasons for skipping the booze, Hinterland welcomes you."
