El Capo: new Latin American style bar mooted to open in Northern Quarter

18 March 2014

Rumour has it that a Latin American-style bar is set to open somewhere in the Northern Quarter in the next couple of weeks. Local listing site, Manchester Wire, suggests that the bar will have a huge range of tequilas - around 70 - which, is, we suspect, is a Manchester record. The Britons Protection, opposite the Bridgewater Hall has more than 300 whiskeys and bourbons - but this is record breaking figure for the Mexican mind-bender.

Food at the chilled new outfit will be taken care of by Troy Amador, formerly of Chorlton Green Brasserie, while wines will be exclusively South American. Taste was privy to a conversation among national food critics at Too Many Critics this week, which concluded that the biggest wine trend in 2014 is Old World producers imitating the courage and definition of some of South America's finest exporters. So the wine list is on the money at least, even if other details are a little up in the air.
