ELECTRIK has, of late, been overshadowed by its South Manchester stablemate, Volta. Both bars, owned by the Unabomber DJ duo, boast a similar drinks line-up and thrift store chic look but the Burton Road establishment does trumpet itself as Eaterie & Bar. In 2014 it was City Life’s restaurant of the year and, with considerably more cachet, was named in the Observer Food Monthly’s Top 50.
Which is a little harsh on Electrik, still a mainstay of the Chorlton bar scene with a terrific music vibe and a terrific place for tasting boards and Sunday roasts featuring Dexter beef, well matched to its outstanding craft beer range.
On a recent visit we sampled two fine ales from Blackjack, among Manchester’s most innovative breweries, to accompany a warm beef sandwich.
