TASTE of Manchester has been looking forward to a new cafe/bar in the Northern Quarter offering something genuinely eclectic. Perhaps Evelyn’s is the answer to our prayers. Superstore was attempting something of the sort before it was sold on. Over to the new owners of this attractive Tib Street pace, the folk behind Mughli in all its manifestations and two fine neighbourhood cafes in London.
Neighbourhood cafe bar is what Evelyn’s is aiming to be. We thought Indian street food might be the name of the game, but no it’s a globally influenced all-day menu, not neglecting hearty breakfasts – kick start your day with toasted roll, Korean chicken, fried egg and chilli – but also happy to incorporate an organic wine list. Intriguing.
We’ve had a sneak preview of the menu now on offer: the likes of white fish ceviche with yuzu, lemongrass, shallots and avocado and lamb with chilli, mint, quinoa, and pomegranate salsa verde. More NQ is the ECB Beef Burger with sriracha mayo, kimchi and fries and the chocolate tart with cherries, while the cocktail list parades White Old Fashioned, Wild Blossom Martini and Tropical Caiparinha.
Evelyn’s Sax Arshad, told us: “The team have worked hard on the concept and feel. Our doors are now open giving the city a fresh, new place to catch up over a coffee or cocktail and enjoy great food. We’re looking forward to getting to know our regulars.
“'The Northern Quarter was a key part of my childhood. My dad owned a clothing business on Newton Street, so the neighbourhood has always evoked that feeling of nostalgia for me. I believe our clientele will see this and appreciate the love that's gone into Evelyn’s.”
As a opening bonus, Evelyn’s is only charging £1 for takeaway coffees Monday to Friday until the end of the year, while during the launch period (Nov 9-Dec1) diners can enjoy 50% off their bill when they book online at www.evelynscafebar.com or direct with the restaurant.
Evelyn’s, G18 Smithfield Buildings, Tib Street. M4 1NB. Open Mon-Sunday, 9am-11pm.
