WE’RE losing track of the quest for world (or at least a street near you) domination that is the Makers Market. You’ll currently find one once a month in the Northern Quarter, Spinningfields, West Didsbury. Cheadle, Knutsford, Eccles, Middlewich, Sandbach and distant Uttoxeter – and imminently Chorlton (launching Sat, August 20) and The Lowry, Salford Quays (Fri and Sat, August 27/28).
Before that, in Manchester, you can check out the Eccles version on Saturday, August 13 and the Northern Quarter the day after.
Only launched in June, Eccles has hit the ground running with the usual mix of indie crafts plus food and drink. This weekend check out Wood Fire and Smoke’s pizzas, Turkish cuisine from The Ottomen, The Perfect Samosa and Mamma Sue’s paellas. Cake lovers can choose from (or grab a slice at both) from Molly Gray’s or Stockport’s Magnificent Cake Co.
Stevenson Square on Sunday has a similar mix and perhaps the best music offering of the markets thanks to DJ Pasta Paul. Our must-visit there would be the Gingers Comfort Emporium van (pictured above), serving the most inventive ice creams around.
Sat 13 Aug, Church Street, Eccles, 10am-4pm, free; Sun Aug 14, Stevenson Square, NQ, 11am-5pm, free.
