FESTIVAL of Manchester is back in Platt Field this Saturday (August 31), reflecting the rich cultural diversity of the city. Heartwarmingly so in these turbulent Brexit times. And food is at the forefront.
Where else would you get to choose between spicy burgers from Afro Brit Street Food, Habesha’s Eritrean/Ethiopian soul food, savoury treats from the Tikka Kebab Company, Spansih churros and The Chimney Co’s authentic Hungarian ‘Chimney Cakes’ with freshly baked cheesy pastry, stuffed with Hungarian pulled pork, Peri Peri chicken, BBQ mushroom, homemade pickle, salad and sauces. Phew!
This action-packed second Festival of Manchester features pop-up performances, quirky installations, live music that covers many cultures, walkabout theatre, poetry slams, even morris dancing plus the chance to tackle BMXing, African drumming and circus skills. All guaranteed to work up an appetite.
As dusk falls, outdoor arts company Walk the Plank, who wowed the crowds last year with their giant illuminated Swan and Peacock, will return with a ‘music box’ using cogs built by festival visitors and designed to celebrate the magic of pre-digital mechanics.
Festival of Manchester, Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield. Saturday, August 31. 12pm-9.30pm. Free.
