First look at 20 Stories – sumptuous restaurant in the sky

19 February 2018 by Neil Sowerby

SOMETHING special is forming in the sky above the city. March 1 is the official lift-off of 20 Stories, but we couldn’t resist an advance peek at the city’s most spectacular new restaurant in eons. If Chef Director Aiden Byrne’s food is half as good as the place looks, then the world will come flocking to the top floor of No1 Spinningfields, 100 dizzying metres above Quay Street. Soft launch reports are already mega-enthusiastic.

20 Stories, at 300 covers embracing a fine dining restaurant, more casual grill room, bar and terrace, is the first Manchester project of D&D, seasoned London operators who emerged from Sir Terence Conran’s restaurant empire. Certainly a continuity of design nous is in evidence.

The a la carte menu shares a similar sophistication, with obvious debts to Byrne’s previous billet at Manchester House – where the sourcing of raw materials was as immaculate as the chef’s technique – while the grill is less special occasion, more of an every day destination (and ToM would be tempted). Catch the menus here and then feast your eyes below on some sumptuous shots of the place.
