THE culinary community in Manchester has a proud record of supporting charitable causes – so there are high fund-raising hopes for Forever Manchester Week (Friday 10 June to Friday 17 June 2016).
Over the last 26 years Forever Manchester has awarded £36m to community projects, benefiting over 1.3 million people across the region. From kid’s football teams to allotment groups, older people’s clubs to disability projects, you name it, this community-led charity has funded it. DeCASKthlon Very like a decathlon, but with pubs, pints and, well, more pints! The aim is to make it to all 10 pubs in the NQ for some ‘charitable drinking!’ Each of these pubs will be taking part in Manchester Beer Week, where Forever Manchester is the charity partner. Some of these will also be serving Forever Manchester's '10 Boroughs Pale Ale', which raises money for Forever Manchester. Starting at the Blue Pig at 1pm, 30 minutes will be spent in each bar with Walrus, Odd Bar, Cane & Grain, Soup Kitchen, Bakerie, PLY, Port St Beer House, Kosmonaut and Tariff & Dale also on the list. Gin tasting with Drinks Enthusiast at The Pen and Pencil The Mad Men inspired bar on Hilton Street has teamed up with Manchester’s spirit guru Dave Marsland, to host a night of gin education and tasting with Warner Edwards. All funds go to Forever Manchester, and include a G&T on arrival, tasting of 4 expressions of Warner Edwards gin, and the bar’s signature Warner Edwards based cocktail, ‘Alexander’s Best Friend.’ Tuesday, June 14, 7.30pm-9pm. Crazy Pedro’s The Curry Mile Pizza
The lively late night pizza joint in Bridge Street has masterminded its new creation, The Curry Mile (main picture), purely for Forever Manchester! The 16in pizza is topped with chicken tikka, poppadoms, onion bhajis and mint yoghurt. It costs £15, and 50p of each sale will be donated to the charity/
Tattu does Tipples and 10% The glamorous modern Chinese restaurant in Spinningfields has an exclusive offer for Forever Manchester week, with a free bottle of prosecco and an extra discount available from 12pm on Monday, June 6 to 11.59pm, Friday, June 10. Thursday Night Live at the Frog and Bucket
Five comedians from the national and international comedy circuit, including one top compere, one top opener, two of the country’s best new acts and one of the best headliners around will take to the stage of the Oldham Street venue, all proceeds going to FM. The Vapiano Vote The Corn Exchange-based casual Italian is encouraging customers to vote for their Favourite Manc with all donations going to FM. Following a social media vote, four finalists were chosen and will now battle it out with Vapiano customers putting any donation they can afford into a box representing their favourite. Will it be Noel Gallagher, Sir Ian McKellen, Tony Wilson or Paul Scholes?
Big Forever Manchester Quiz of the Year at Dive NQ Pit your wits against your peers across quiz topics as original as music, sport, general knowledge, legendary animals, knitwear and maths – with a special round dedicated to Forever Manchester and its brilliant work. Team entry for a maximum of 6 people costs £45, or £60 with food and drink included. Plus there’s a raffle as proceeds go to FM. Black Dog Ballroom NQ Stone Roses Cocktail This lemon-based concoction in homage to the Stone Roses’ triumphant return to Manchester will be on sale throughout Forever Manchester Week. It’s made with Finlandia vodka, raspberry puree, pineapple and soda. A donation of 50p will be donated from the sale of each drink.
Mancunian Ravioli at Don Giovanni Manc-style filled pasta dish will be on sale throughout the week, at Manchester’s longest standing Italian restaurant, on Oxford Street. It’s filled with Lancashire cheese and Cheshire venison and served with an asparagus & mint sauce. From the £14.95 price a donation of £1 will go to FM.
Banyan Gin Event A fun and interactive evening of gin tasting in the name of charity, including welcome drink, gin masterclass and canapes. £5 from each ticket goes to FM. Monday, June 13, 5.30-8pm. Tickets £15.
