Marriott Manchester Hotel Piccadilly – the city’s biggest four-star – has just pulled back the curtain on its shiny new ground-floor dining spot, Loom & Ladle Bar & Bistro. And if you’re into hearty comfort food with a touch of polish, you’re going to want to book in.
At the helm is Head Chef Thomas Gardner, a man with 27 years’ graft in the kitchen and more than two decades of Marriott experience under his belt. Born on a diet of childhood cooking shows and a passion for fresh ingredients, Thomas is bringing Manchester’s larder to life, plate by plate.
The name Loom & Ladle is a nod to the city’s cotton-spinning past, but the menu is firmly planted in the here and now. Think locally sourced, seasonal produce given a refined twist – perfect for a pre-theatre bite, a lazy dinner with mates, or even a long-overdue date night.
Starters set the tone: Potato Hash with poached egg and Bury black pudding is as northern as it gets, while Heritage Tomato with vegan feta and watermelon brings a light, fresh hit. Mains range from Lancashire Cheese & Onion Pie (proper pastry, naturally) to BBQ Beef Brisket with creamed corn. And for pudding? You’re looking at Strawberry & Honeycomb Cheesecake or a decadent Chocolate, Clementine & Cranberry Fudge Slice.
The drinks list isn’t phoning it in either – a bespoke wine selection sits alongside a cocktail menu featuring the Mancunian Classic, a cheeky mix of Absolut Vanilla Vodka, fruit juices, and Manchester’s own Vimto. Prices are pitched between £6 and £32, so you can splash out or keep it casual.
From locals after a cosy hangout to visitors wanting the real flavour of the city, Loom & Ladle looks set to become a new go-to on Manchester’s dining map.
