Friday Food Fights Are Back At The Great Northern With Some Tasty Newcomers

26 January 2015

THE announcement of the next round of Friday Food Fights at the Great Northern came less than an hour after the FA Cup Fifth Round Draw – arousing considerably more excitement here at Taste of Manchester thanks to a another fascinating line-up.

B.Eat Street, who won Best Food and Drink Pop-Up category at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards 2014, kicked off the new 10-week season on Friday, January 23 – back in the same venue by popular demand but with a keep-it-fresh rotation of street food vendors.

And the just announced line-up for Friday No2 (January 30) is: newcomers Splendid Kitchen, John Dalton Street’s own purveyors of ‘Northern Soul Food’; the familiar faces of LoveFromThe Streets with their ‘Whole Hog’ and DirtyFood Revolution presenting their Dirty Dare Ya Burger with lava chilli jam; Tex Mex street food from Hungry Hombres; the  Tampopo boys roaming the cuisines of South East Asia; and sweet things to finish from Penelope’s Kitchen based at The Pie Factory in Media City

Quite a line-up, but the opening event will be a hard act to follow, where seasoned Food Fighters Coq O' The North led the way with all things fowl from buttermilk fried, charcoal grilled, schnitzel, rotisserie to a good old roast plus Belgian style fries.

New blood (or should that be new pud!) arrived next door in the form of Tomfoolery at 34, pop-up version of a decidedly leftfield new bar/eaterie scheduled to launch in Alderley Edge in spring. Their chef Brice Moore unleashed a series of sweet treats – Glazed Pumpkin Doughnuts; Carrot Cake + Cheese Cake, Lotus Biscuit, Buttercream, Candied Walnuts, Candied Carrots and Milk Crumbs; Lucky Charms Cereal Cookies and Milk; and  Peanut Butter Ice Cream, Caramelised White Chocolate, Dark Chocolate Ganache and Blow Torched Banana.

A perfect finale for the savoury stuff supplied by the likes of Red’s True Barbecue, The Hip Hop Chip Shop, Yakumama and Nasi Lemak. Expect to see Tomfoolery back at the Food Fight in February.

Great Northern Warehouse M3 4RN in the empty unit above Lucha Libre and All Star Lanes. Every Friday, from January 23, 5pm till 12am.
