MOST small eateries would die for the customer loyalty of the Northern Quarter’s eponymous TNQ Restaurant and Bar on High Street. It’s of a piece with its chef, Anthony Fielden, who has been running the kitchen well over a decade.
What keeps the food offering fresh is the regular series of themed evenings, the next is the £60 a head EATaly on Wednesday, July 25, which features the country it says on the can.
ToM took a break from World Cup duty to sample this month’s similarly priced Pintxos Party, a busy homage (menu below) to the Basque small plates of San Sebastian.
Hard to pick out a special dish, the whole menu was a harmonious parade. Maybe it came from the pictured sharing plate of wild mushrooms and egg yolk; padron peppers and smoked sea salt; sherry marinated figs, goat’s cheese with truffle honey.
Dishes were matched with wines from groundbreaking Spanish wine company Casa Rojo, which has progressed from crafting elegant Monastrell at its Jumilla base in South Eastern Spain to making a portfolio of wines that range from Galician whites Albarino and Godello to one of the best Catalan Priorat reds we’ve ever tasted, introduced on the night by representatives of the winery.
