IT’S not all about hoppy IPAs this craft beer revolution. One of Manchester’s canniest niche brewers is Mike Marcus of Chorlton Brewing Co, who specialises in sour and wild fermented beers. Cult beers such as Dark Matter, a 7.3% Imperial Black Gose style beer infused with Belgian dark candi sugar and single origin cocoa beans have won him national acclaim among the beer cognoscenti.
Hence Chorlton’s third National Tap Takeover at multiple venues around the country from Friday, January 26 to Sunday 28. It’s a perfect way for the curious to discover the delights of these forbidding sounding small batch tipples inspired by German traditions. Here’s an online map to show which taps will be serving the Chorlton range (brewed in an Ardwick arch). Local outlets include The Pilcrow, Piccadilly Tap, Bundobust, Ancoats General Store and Wigan Central.
Mike tells us: “For too long wild and sour beers have been seen as a niche product, even within beer circles, and one of our aims is to bring sour beer to the widest possible audience by making it affordable, accessible and approachable – our National Tap Takeovers go a long way to achieving that.”
From Jan 28-30. Multiple venues local and national. @ChorltonBrew
