A BEVVY at the 19th hole is as close as TOM has got to swinging a club in anger. And we wouldn’t be seen dead in checked trews… or that green blazer Danny Willett has probably still not taken off.
So we resisted the temptation to go round Spinningfields’ new 9-hole outdoor mini golf course, Tee Party (yes, it did sound a bit Sarah Palin, too), choosing instead to chill in the adjacent sports bar, The Club House, which opened its doors last week. The tennis was on the HD screens and the Prosecco flowed.
The Club House has taken up temporary residence on Hardman Square in the former Rust & Stone unit – a ‘healthy eating’ project that didn’t connect – where it will stay until the end of August, serving up drinks and nibbles to players, spectators and, well, anyone fancying taking in Sky Sports and BT Sport.
It is open Wednesday to Sunday early afternoon until late. Special opening times will come into play for major sporting events (like the Rio Olympics), private bookings or great weather. For Wimbledon fortnight expect strawberries and cream, hopefully not served at SW19 prices. It will operate until August 31.
The Tee Party will be open from 12pm to 8pm, also Wed-Sun as well as Bank Holidays until May 30. There will be a maximum of six players per group and there is no need to book in advance. More detailed information is available on the Spinningfields website.
Pictured below at the launch are Sale Sharks players showing that rugby players are also good at golf – and probably drinking.
