WHEN the clocks go back Taste of Manchester tends to put the Fever-Tree back in the fridge and adopt a more autumnal take on gin. Yes, you guessed, it’s Negroni time.
Never tasted this emphatic marriage of gin, Campari and Sweet Vermouth? Harvey Nichols has the perfect introduction (or in our case refresher course).
As part of their pop-up residency on the Second Floor, offering a range of food and drink events, House of Peroni are holding two evenings of Negroni Experiences on Wednesday, November 9 and Thursday 10.
Tickets are £15 per person but for that you get an hour session, featuring five variations on this classic Italian cocktail, created first for Count Negroni in 1920s Florence. Peroni mixologist Simone Caporale will guide you through this tasting menu. Afterwards you can choose your favourite to sip in the bar area, along with a selection of Italian bites apertivo style.
Harvey Nichols Second Floor Bar, 21 Cathedral Approach Manchester M1 1AD. Wed and Thu Nov 9 and 10. 6pm-7pm, 7pm-8pm, 8pm-9pm. To book call 0161 828 8898 or email [email protected]
OF course, come spring G&Ts will be de rigueur once again and what better way to celebrate than the two Gin Society tastings at Manchester Cathedral on Friday March 3 and Saturday 4. “At £7.50 per ticket (plus booking fee) they make the perfect stocking filler for the gin lover in your life,” it says here.
The Gin Society’s Cathedral debut this September was a real tonic (sic) and the 2017 events offer more of the same – more than 85 of the finest gins from the UK and across the globe plus an augmented array of fruit gins.
There¹ll also be festival fizz – Prosecco and Prosecco cocktails infused with fruit gins – vintage tunes, dancing, food and, for the serious ginophile chin wags with guest distillers.
