GRUB BLAST FROM THE PAST AT SADLER’S YARD is a historic event

2 June 2016 by Neil Sowerby

LASHINGS of the city’s best food and booze… and the rest is history! That’s the focus of GRUB’s third themed event in Sadler’s Yard at NOMA, Blast From The Past, as they collaborate with Manchester Histories Festival and local community group Friends of Angel Meadow

This fascinating tie-in on Saturday, June 4, follows the hugely popular GRUB Spring Feast and GRUB May Carnival with a similar food and drink formula. TOM tip: the vegan crab and avocado pops (pictured) from Holy Crab, sustainable seafood trader.

Plus there's the chance to see how the Pilcrow Pub project is progressing in the Yard. The ‘new community pub’ (below) is starting to take shape on the back of weekly workshops. This month you can help in the building of bar stools, led by Pilcrow head maker Joe Hartley.

All this sits nicely with the history theme. Visitors can join walks exploring the area’s rich past and attend talks from history experts, many of which will have free tickets available on the day. These will include Simon Ward discussing everything from basket weaving to badminton in “Ragged Schools of Angel Meadow” and Richard O Smith’s comedy show based on his book “The Man With His Head in the Clouds”, all about balloonist – and Sadler’s Yard namesake – James Sadler. The latter of these will take place at 12pm and 3pm, with advanced tickets now available on Eventbrite.

Grub Blast From The Past, Sadler’s Yard, Redfern St, Manchester M60 0AB. Saturday June 4 12pm-8pm. Free. For latest info: @GRUBMCR.
