GRUB Food Fair and Pilcrow Launch Party: New date confirmed for Sadler's Yard Launch

5 November 2015 by Lucy Lovell

THE brand new public square Sadler's Yard has announced new dates for their launch weekend, after having to cancel due to the fire at CIS tower last month.

Thursday December 4 sees the launch party of The Pilcrow, a new community pub built entirely by hand, using traditional techniques by local volunteers. The evening promises pub games, pizza, music and beers from 7pm.

Friday 5th will see the GRUB Christmas Food Fair, featuring carols, craft ale, coffee, DJs, gift stalls and a visit from St Nick himself. The GRUB festive knees-up will take place from 12 - 8pm.

The project is led by Ben Young of Capital Properties, and designer / maker Joseph Hartley (recently involved in the fantastic Common refurb, NQ) both pictured above.

The new public square is at the heart of the NOMA neighbourhood, and has been named after pioneer James Sadler, who made the first manned balloon flight in Manchester in March 1785.

Simon Binns, journalist and chair of the panel appointed to name the square, said: “It was an incredibly difficult decision as we had received such a high number of entries, all of which had their merits but - following a long and interesting debate - Sadler’s Yard was the preferred option. James Sadler was an innovator, entrepreneur and daredevil, and we are sure his spirit will be encapsulated in the Yard.”

Judging by the line up of creative and innovative events scheduled, TOM are confident that Sadler's Yard will live up to its namesake.
