GRUB have launched a new monthly, city-centre feast, kicking off with the Grub Spring Food Fair this Saturday, April 2, 12pm-8pm.
This free entry event will take place within the newly opened Sadler’s Yard at NOMA, opposite Manchester Victoria Station and next to the Northern Quarter, following the successful Christmas Food Fair.
It’s all part of an increasingly busy schedule for the Green Quarter-based pop-up food and drink entrepreneurs. They are also back at Runaway Brewery for a follow-up Food Fair there on Saturday, April 16 (12pm-10pm).
The first Sadler’s Yard event will feature street food from critically claimed pizza makers Honest Crust, amazing Mexican food from El Kantina (check out their crazy salsa above), desserts from new Manchester bakehouse S’Mores Please as well as Indian roti wraps served from the converted ice cream van of Fancy An Indian.
On top of this visitors will be able to purchase craft beer to take home from NQ stalwarts Beermoth as well as freshly made past from The Pasta Factory. Children will be kept occupied with a plant potting activity while adults will be able to take part in a guided gin tasting from local distillery Zymurgorium.
Further monthly events will be differently themed. The one thread running through all the events will be the focus on new, independent traders and artists. GRUB has a proud track record of supporting new street food traders and is now looking to extend this to small produce businesses as well as artists and crafters.
All stall holders will be producers so visitors buying art can talk to the artist, and if buying street food the chef should be on hand. Every event will also support local art, for example each event poster will be an original, commissioned piece from an illustrator, with plans for exhibitions to form part of future events.
The Runaway brew tap pop-up offers Greek veggie from Soraya’s Kitchen (pictured), slow-cooked beef butties from The Beefer, Meltworks’ sourdough cheese toasties, home-cooked Filipino treats from Manila Munchies and artisan truffles from In Truffle We Trust.
