GRUB’s back at Mayfield Depot base from May Bank Holiday onwards

24 April 2018 by Neil Sowerby

WE’ve grown to love the Fairfield Social Club, winter haven for GRUB on Temperance Street. It tickles us that they are even hosting weddings in the cavernous space dominated by its craft bar that signals its guest beers like a cricket scorebox.

But now summer is nigh (well, there were three scorching days before it rained again) and it’s time to move outside back to Mayfield Depot. The canniest street food operation in town will take up residence again from the start of May in a revamped space with room for more stalls and an extended covered space. The opening party over the Bank Holiday Weekend features stalwart traders such as Howlin Tacos, The Otto-Men, Parm Star, Hun Street Kitchen, Gravy Train and Drizzle City Bakes. With DJs and lots of beer.

GRUB co-founder Jason Bailey told us: “We had a smashing first year at Mayfield, it’s an utterly tremendous space to work with. Grub was a touch more popular than we anticipated last year and so we've increased the covered seating area and nearly doubled the size of the bar. Which means we can more than double the number of cask beers available.

Over the summer the fair will operate from 12pm until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 12-6pm on Sundays, where the UK’s first exclusively vegan weekly street food event Plant Powered Sunday will continue.

GRUB Food Fair, Fri May 4-Sat May 5, Mayfield Manchester, Fairfield Street, Manchester. 12pm – 10pm. Free.
