Guestrant and new bar planned for NQ

14 July 2010

Hulme has a new African and Caribbean restaurant called Yaba (110 Hulme High Street, Hulme). Offering an all you can eat buffet for around £7, Yaba joins M&Ms (127 Stamford Street) and Buzzrocks (166 Stretford Road) in Hulme as well as Chorlton’s Rhythm’n’Rice (170 Manchester Road) and Orlando’s (380 Barlow Moor Road) offering this style of spiced grub in south Manchester.

Those who like to try something a bit different may like to register for the sixth Guestrant which takes place Monday July 19, 7.30pm at Chorlton’s Electrik bar (559 Wilbraham Road, Chorlton. Tel: 0161 881 3315). Following in the footsteps of the Mark Addy’s Robert Owen Brown, Sheffield’s Tim Buca is hosting a meal at the fashionable bar in the south of the city centre. As the owner of Buca (220 Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, S7 1FL. Tel: 07814 188300), the chef specialises in simple, modern fare with a focus on high quality ingredients. The menu for the night is Osakan sashimi grade tuna with pickled cucumber, toasted pumpkin seeds and Japanese sprouts to start, followed by 28 day aged ribeye of beef with celeriac and wild mushrooms. Dessert is to be confirmed, and there is a vegetarian option too. Tickets are £25 for three courses. Email [email protected] for more info.

Opposite Taste of Manchester HQ, there’s a planning application for a new bar. Located on Edge Street with suggested opening hours of 7am to 12am, the application has been made by Beautiful Drinks Limited, the company behind the well established Northern Quarter haunt, Socio-Rehab. At the time of writing they were unavailable for comment.
