Gullivers travels across Oldham St for The Castle's takeover team

13 August 2013

STRUGGLING Gullivers on Oldham Street has been snapped up by the folk across the road at The Castle – Jonny Booth and business partner Rupert Hill, once of Coronation Street.

The boys are proving quite active. Their last pub acquisition, The Eagle in Collier Street, Salford, has just gained permission to extend into neighbouring premises to create a music venue.

Music has played a big role at the refurbished Castle in the four years since Booth and Hill brokered a deal with Robinsons Brewery to take it on. The pair hope that Gullivers (only put up for sale two weeks ago) can feed from that success – it offers a larger performing space, including potential to renovate an upstairs dance hall. They expect to reopen Gullivers with a launch bash on September 5.

Expect a commitment to cask beer here, too. They have successfully added guest ales to the Robinons roster at The Castle, while beer (and food) quality is exceptional at their fourth outlet, The Parlour in Chorlton.
