Harvey Nichols Dig The City Dinner – with guest chefs Lisa Allen & Mary-Ellen McTague

22 July 2013

TWO of Britain’s best female chefs team up to cook a special dinner for Dig The City,   Manchester’s urban gardening festival (August 3-11). The venue is Harvey Nichols Second Floor Restaurant

Mary-Ellen McTague, chef/proprietor at Manchester’s current restaurant of the year Aumbry, and Great British Menu Finalist Lisa Allen, head chef of the Michelin starred Northcote will create an exclusive 4-course menu, served overlooking the festival’s Show Gardens on New Cathedral Street.

In the spirit of urban gardening, the menu will highlight foraged foods, local produce and food you can grow and cook at home from a small town garden.

Guests will enjoy a Dig the City Cocktail on arrival. Mary-Ellen will serve an amuse and the main course. Lisa Allen will serve the starter and dessert. The evening will close with a Coffee Q&A – a chance to hear about the inspiration behind the gardening-inspired menu.

The chefs:

Lisa Allen (pictured above) joined Northcote, near Blackburn, under the mentorship of Nigel Haworth in 2001 and earned the position of Executive Chef in only three years. She was named Chef of the Year in the 2008 Northern Hospitality Awards and was one of four chefs cooking at a banquet hosted by Prince Charles in the BBC’s Great British Menu 2010.

The first female chef at Michelin-starred hotel Sharrow Bay, Mary-Ellen McTague (pictured below) joined The Fat Duck in 2002 and progressed from the pastry section to become sous chef under Heston Blumenthal and Ashley Palmer-Watts. She opened Aumbry in Prestwich with her husband in 2009 and reached the North West finals of BBC’s Great British Menu in 2013.
